Discovery District Mixed-Use Plan Moves Forward

The Pizzuti Companies and their partner, Capital University, have received approval for a proposed mixed-use redevelopment of an existing surface parking lot at the northeast intersection of South Grant Avenue and Oak Street in the Discovery District of Columbus, Ohio.

Located in the heart of the Discovery District at 50 South Grant Avenue, the 1-acre site includes a six-story mixed-use structure with six floors of apartment units, 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and structured parking.

The mixed-use project will include 145 apartments, ranging from studios to spacious two-bedroom units, and are designed to attract both young and established professionals, students, lifelong learners, and those who want to live in the heart of a vibrant downtown neighborhood. The project will feature ground-level garden apartments, private gardens with landscaping and decorative fencing, and a heavily landscaped rooftop amenity area, including a swimming pool, bocce ball court, and grill stations.

“We are committed to providing the neighborhood with a walkable, pedestrian-friendly Oak Street, with walk-up units, outdoor social spaces, and much-needed retail space,” said Jon Riewald, Director of Development for The Pizzuti Companies. “In collaboration with the redevelopment of Library Park, this project will further define the pedestrian experience within the neighborhood.”

The project marks Pizzuti’s second active project in the Discovery District. Currently under construction is Library Park, a multi-family project that is located directly to the south and spans the full block from South Grant Avenue to South 9th Street. A combination of renovation, new construction, and site improvements, Library Park will offer the neighborhood 140 additional units. Preleasing for Library Park is scheduled to begin in January 2020, while first units will be delivered in March 2020.

“We are thrilled to work with Capital University and, together, support the continued growth of our city,” said Joel S. Pizzuti, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Pizzuti Companies. “The Discovery District is a growing residential community, anchored by cultural attractions and educational institutions. This important project will further cement the area as one of our city’s vibrant, walkable neighborhoods.”
