The Pizzuti Companies Class A industrial facility, developed for Crate & Barrel in Romeoville, Illinois, has been awarded the Green Building Initiative’s 2022 Green Globes Project of the Year. The more than 645,000 square foot building earned a Three Green Globes rating under Green Globes for New Construction (NC).
According to GBI, Green Globes for New Construction (NC) evaluates environment sustainability, health & wellness of future tenants, and resilience of new construction projects. Development features taken into consideration for this award include water efficiency, materials utilized, and project management.
“We are honored to receive this award, and appreciate that all involved prioritize the importance of effective sustainable solutions,” said Joel Pizzuti, President and CEO for The Pizzuti Companies.
Located on more than 40 acres in the Pinnacle Business Center, the logistics facility includes LED high bay lighting with occupant and motion controls, high-performance exterior wall design for both thermal performance and solar reflectivity control, and a Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) ENERGY STAR rated roofing surface. All aspects of construction contributed to the project being nearly Net Zero Energy, and 120% Net Positivity for carbon emissions, with a 109.35% national average.
John Kenney, Vice President of Construction added, “Since our first certified building in 2008, we have strived to learn and improve from each project. The Crate & Barrel facility is the culmination of that learning.”
As a collaborative effort brought together by our partnership with Heitman and Crate & Barrel, all teams involved in the new construction enthusiastically embrace the values of sustainability.
